Something special for Black History Month from the foodchain
With their new album entitled “Corpses” forthcoming on February 10th 2010, Denver independent hip hop group “the foodchain” takes
time out to reflect upon the importance of black history month. In honor of the sacrifices made by the generations of African
Americans that fought, created, lived and died in this country pre and post civil rights movement, “the foodchain” offers the
single, “Black Is Me” as a tribute.
The members of the foodchain firmly believe that were it not for the sacrifice of past generations there would be no platform for today’s
inspiration.
The story of this great nation is a tapestry woven together by threads of human tragedy and triumph, joy and pain. Only when
standing back can one appreciate the beauty created by the interweaving of each and every thread. At times it is important
however, to focus on an area in particular, in order to understand the intricacy of the piece and more importantly, to truly value the
hard work and time that went into it’s making. This is what the month of February allows us all to do as Americans in it’s designation
as Black History month.
The contributions made to this country by generations of African Americans past, present and future is, and will continue to be
vast. The role of the African American in the building of this nation is as integral as the principles of independence it was
founded upon.
“Black Is Me” is an all encompassing look at life through African American eyes… the good and bad… the beauty to be
remembered… and the ugliness that should never be forgotten.
